This year’s UEFA Champions League Final will be between two European giants, Arsenal F.C. and Paris Saint-Germain F.C. (PSG), with each club having an insatiable desire to win this game for different reasons.
For Arsenal, this would be its first-ever Champions League title, and after three straight seasons of barely missing out on major trophies, the club has strong expectations to deliver to its fanbase after years without silverware. Meanwhile, PSG is hoping to establish itself as a dynasty after five straight league titles and a 5–0 win against Inter Milan in last year’s final that earned PSG its first Champions League title.
The 2026 Champions League Final will be fascinating because it will be a clash of two opposite footballing ideologies and tactics. Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal has managed to become the best team in England through a highly structured, possession-based tactical system defined by defensive discipline, tight spacing, and elite set-piece efficiency. This system is responsible for the team conceding just six goals in the entire Champions League season and keeping nine clean sheets, more than any other team.
While this style has made Arsenal dominant, it has garnered criticism from fans for its blandness at times. Longtime soccer fan Hunter Scott ’27 had this to say about Arsenal: “I think Arsenal has a very talented squad, but the way they play at times has been hard to watch this season. Their playing style hasn’t felt very fluid or entertaining sometimes, and they often rely on singular set-piece goals for their wins, which can be uninteresting to watch.”
On the other hand, PSG is the polar opposite of Arsenal. Under the brilliant management of Luis Enrique and fantastic playmaking from reigning Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, as well as Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, PSG has become the most clinical attacking unit in the world. This season alone, PSG scored 44 goals in the Champions League, more than any other team in the competition’s history.
This season, PSG has been noted for its unpredictability, speed, and individual brilliance, while Arsenal has found success through precise and methodical football. Because of this, Hunter Scott predicted PSG would win, stating, “I think PSG will win by a wide margin, and I think the score will either be 3–1 or 4–1. I don’t think Arsenal can match PSG’s creativity and speed on the attack, and I don’t think the Arsenal defense is strong enough to stop this PSG side, which took down favorites like FC Bayern Munich and Liverpool F.C..”
Loyola Academy Soccer player Dylan Held ’27 had similar praise for PSG’s squad, but thought that this final would be far closer than last year’s and that Arsenal could pull through. “While I think PSG has the more talented squad, I think Arsenal can get the win because PSG hasn’t faced a defense like Arsenal’s, which is arguably the best in Europe. I think Arsenal’s discipline and the fact that they just won the Premier League proves my case, which is why I think Arsenal will win 2–1.”
Overall, the final taking place tomorrow between Arsenal and PSG will be the ultimate showdown between two of the best teams in Europe. Whether or not fans of either team leave happy with the result, neutral soccer fans will definitely be entertained by the end.
