After completing an undefeated season in the Mission League with a record of 10-0, the varsity swimming and diving team came out on top at CIF Southern Section Finals at Riverside City College on Saturday, May 14, claiming its second CIF Title in the last six years.
Of the 38 schools represented at CIF Finals, Loyola finished first with 369.50 points, followed by Dana Hills who placed second with 252.50 points and Santa Margarita in third with 242 points.
Of the 369.50 points, the 400 and 200 yard freestyle relay teams each accumulated 44 points after finishing in first place. Consisting of seniors Josh Kim, Gabe Schneider and Joon Sung and junior Sean Lee, the 400 relay team finished with a time of 3:02.63, outkicking the Huntington Beach team that finished in 3:03.16.
The 200 relay team, consisting of seniors Samuel Jo, John Mamer and Nicholas Bell and junior Marko Vavic, finished in 1:32.04, beating the Dana Hills team that finished in 1:32.66. Both teams contributed the most points to Loyola’s victory.
