The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) Convention was held in Boston from Sept. 12-16, drawing together over 8,000 participants, including college counselors and admission representatives from across the country.
Counselors Mike Denison, Kelly Farland and Jesse Rueter attended the convention, meeting with other counselors and college representatives to network, and collecting the most recent information in college admission policies and preferences.
Rueter said, “It is unique to hear what the Jesuit colleges are doing. All of the admissions on the college side and high school counselors come together to discuss the issues of the college admission.”
Later that evening, Loyola counselors met with admissions director John Mahoney who is involved with various colleges such as Georgetown and Ohio State. The three counselors also networked with other college counselors to build relationships.
The following day, a keynote speaker presented about the admission process for the Jesuit universities and described how they accept students into their colleges. The three counselors had different breakout sessions and smaller venues that focused on tasks such as completing the Common Application, taking gap years and learning how to write an effective letter of recommendation.
