In his 24th year as a member of the Loyola faculty, Mr. Paul Jordan ’88 continues to serve the Cub community through his work as the Director of Counseling and Assistant Principal for Student Life.
Mr. Jordan holds a variety of credentials, including a college counseling certificate, an undergraduate degree in business with an emphasis in marketing, a master’s degree in secondary education and a master’s degree in school administration.
Mr. Jordan is also in the process of earning a doctorate degree in interdisciplinary leadership, and he is expected to graduate from his doctorate program this May. Mr. Jordan decided to pursue a doctorate degree to widen his area of expertise. “I have a couple of masters’ degrees in education specifically, but I wanted to kind of stretch myself outside of that and incorporate other types of practices and things like that,” Jordan said.
In addition to his current positions, Mr. Jordan has assumed a variety of roles at Loyola that include teaching mathematics and history, coaching freshman and JV basketball and serving as an assistant admissions director. Jordan also worked with Athletic Trainer Mr. Tim Moscicki to develop the concussion testing project that mandates concussion testing for all Loyola students.
Mr. Jordan was named the Director of Counseling in 2010 by current principal Mr. Frank Kozakowski. Mr. Jordan’s first major undertaking as Director of Counseling was streamlining the Counseling Department. “My goal when I took over the department was to bring some standardization to what the counselors do…There was not an established curriculum for counseling,” Jordan said.
Mr. Jordan has implemented a variety of change in the Counseling Department, including the addition of four new counselors–Mrs. Daryl Crowley, Mr. Kelly Farland, Mrs. Yoojin Han and Ms. Gina Liberotti– to lessen caseloads, the reworking of the junior guidebook, and the inception of the College Essay Writing Workshop, which is offered in one week intervals during Loyola Summer Session.
Mr. Jordan enjoys his job because of the constantly changing nature of Loyola. “I love my job because when you come to work, you never know what you are going to get. Kids are unpredictable; this is a fluid environment with lots of people, lots of changing parts.”
When Mr. Jordan is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, going to concerts and traveling. In addition, he participates in a Fantasy Football League with other veteran staff members.
Mr. Jordan continues to value his job at Loyola particularly because of his daily interactions with the Cub community: “Probably, the biggest blessing of my job is that I get to work with unbelievable kids who teach me all the time and great faculty who make me want to be better, and it’s a perfect combination for me in trying to be the best that I can be.”
