Senior Kelly Blake became the first ever Loyola Cub to be named CIF Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the 34 year history of the award.  Presented to one high school female and male student-athlete who has demonstrated academic and athletic excellence, this award was also presented to Foothill High School senior Sophia Brown. Picked from a pool of 400 candidates, both Blake and Brown will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

This program also honored one female and male student-athlete from each CIF section, who will each be granted a $2,000 scholarship.

Enrolled in Stanford’s class of 2020, Blake maintains an unweighted 3.97 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and scored a 35 on the ACT. Along with taking four advanced placement (AP) classes this year, Blake serves as the president of the Monogram Club, a club exclusive to varsity athletes who maintain a weighted 3.5 GPA.

At Loyola’s award assembly on Tuesday, May 24, Blake received the Scholar-Athlete award.

On Thursday, May 26, Blake and Brown received their award on the State Capitol and Senate and Assembly Floors in Sacramento, Calif. In honor of this award, Blake also received a banner commemorating his achievement.
