The 2023-2024 MLB season has finally come to an end after a postseason for the ages. That being said, free agency is fully off and running. The offseason brings hope for teams like the Twins, Red Sox, and Giants, all .500 teams this past year. Many former all-stars and MVP candidates are becoming free agents this offseason, headlined by elite hitters like Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Anthony Santander. On the pitching side of free agency, names such as Jack Flaherty, Corbin Burnes, and Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) superstar Roki Sasaki seem to be the cream of the crop in this year’s free-agent options.
The Dodgers, who look to continue to add all-star players to their roster, have some notable free agents. Teoscar Hernandez, who overperformed his 2024 salary; Jack Flaherty, a hometown favorite; and Walker Buehler, who capped off the final win. Rich Torres ’26 thinks the “Dodgers should resign Jack Flaherty, and I think Roki Sasaki will easily be a Dodger.”
The Yankees are also an interesting team to look at this offseason. Free agents Juan Soto, Gleyber Torres, and Clay Holmes possibly leaving the Bronx; this could be a make-or-break offseason for the Yankee future. Henry Hall ’26 says the “Yankees need to get Juan Soto back,” and the “Yankees need to target Christian Walker to man first base.”
Sticking with the AL East, the Baltimore Orioles, one of the youngest teams in MLB, are looking to add players with experience to help their younger stars. Thus far, they have already been linked to Teoscar Hernandez to replace the aging Anthony Santander. On the pitching side of things, Corbin Burnes is going to cost a lot of money, which the Orioles never seem to have; they might aim to sign Yusei Kikuchi, Nate Eovaldi, or Shane Bieber, all of whom have won previous pitching accolades.
