There is a new Cub on campus, and her name is Hope. Hope is a 7-month-old, medium-sized Australian Labradoodle. She has been a member of the Loyola Jesuit community for a little over five weeks but has already bonded with many on our campus. She is a ball of energy who loves nothing more than cuddling with Cubs and taking a nap, as her puppy energy runs out very quickly.
You can spot Hope walking around at recess and lunch, offering love to any Cub willing to pet her. She is a great stress reliever, perfect for taking your mind off an upcoming test or a fast-approaching deadline.
Fr. John Quinn, S.J., her owner, says that she loves to meet people and is friendly to everyone she meets.
“Everyone who has met Hope is amazed by how friendly she is, how well-behaved she is and how beautiful she is,” Quinn said.
Students of all ages have already fallen in love with her.
Aiden Zhang-Mastrapa ‘25 said, “As a dog owner myself, Hope reminds me of my own dog and is something to look forward to after a stressful day of school.”
Hope has bonded with not only students but also our school security and visitors, with her welcoming nature brightening everyone’s day.
After meeting Hope, Griffin Kelly ’25 exuberantly remarked, “Hope gives me hope!”
She has even become a sort of mascot for the varsity football team, greeting every player after their games.
Dashel Valdez ‘27 led the team in a chant of “HOPE-HOPE-HOPE” after the St. Francis game.
Although there currently is not an official way to schedule a visit with Hope, Fr. Quinn is working to integrate her into daily campus life. Hope has a very busy schedule, with numerous walks and naps. If a student wants to meet with her, they can reach out to Fr. Quinn at [email protected]. He mentioned that afternoons and weekends are the best times to meet with Hope.
Whether with a quick pet or long cuddle, Hope is always ready to bring joy to the Loyola community.
