Often dominated by the hectic life of Los Angeles, residents and tourists rarely find the opportunity to venture the nooks and crannies of the city. But, if you ever have the chance on a weekend, Grand Central Market is the perfect destination to escape the metropolitan life.
Grand Central Market, opened in 1917, is a congested marketplace with shops to buy spices and sauces, meals and meat. Located in downtown on Broadway Street, Grand Central Market is a combination of many cultures, including Mexican, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and American. It is a crowded environment that is filled almost every day at lunch and at night, and it is especially busy on weekends.
In addition to shopping, Grand Central is home to many unique places to eat. One of the main places to eat at Grand Central Market is Eggslut, which serves breakfast sandwiches on a brioche bun with a choice of sausage or bacon. The cafe can often be seen with a line 45 minutes long that often wraps around the cafe.
Another restaurant that I went to is Berlin Currywurst. It is located right next to Eggslut and serves a variety of sausage items. One of these items is a breakfast bowl (similar to the ones sold at Zlicious) with a choice of sausage, garlic, potatoes, sauerkraut and sauce. The cafe is not as busy as some other places, but like almost every shop in Grand Central Market, Berlin Currywurst has a steady stream of customers. I was able to try the breakfast bowl, and I can definitely say that it was one of the best breakfast items I have ever had.
The atmosphere at Grand Central is filled with excitement and animated. I was able to talk to one of the people working at Berlin Currywurst about working here at Grand Central Market.
The worker said, “Grand Central Market can get pretty crazy at times working here, but working here is one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had.”
The environment of Grand Central Market can get hectic, but everyone there is always happy and looks like he or she wants to be there. I don’t know of a better place to meet some friends for dinner because Grand Central Market has something for everyone and is truly a fun environment to be in.
