Loyola was blessed with the presence of a novitiate for the past few months. You may have seen a man with sunglasses wearing all black with a clerical collar. His name was Corey Trujillo and his path crossed with Loyola for a good reason: he is on his way to joining the Jesuit order and was sent as a part of his novice path.
Almost every morning, Trujillo could be seen standing out on Malloy Commons alongside Student Life Pastoral Counselor Fr. Tony Sholander, S.J. From a quick “good morning” to conversations with passing students, the two would be smiling across the campus, giving off a sense of radiating joy.
If period 4 was on the calendar, Trujillo was occupied. As many Honors Astronomy students may note, he was a big fan of astronomy and enjoyed learning more about the subject. For the previous semester, he was seated in the back row of the class and tuned into what Andrey Aristov ‘80 had to say.
He did not mind to share his journey in the Jesuit path and answer questions that lingered in students’ minds such as those related to abstinence or his decision to follow Christ. For example, he visited Ignatian Spirituality, taught by Mr. Randy Lopez ’96, and spoke to seniors about finding their journey and knowing God is always there.
Trujillo extended his presence through various Kairos retreats where he joined as a leader in March. To wrap up his time at Loyola, he attended an event from Junior Kairos. All smiles and gratitude from him and with an overlook of wrapping up his experience with a gift bow.
On May 24th, Trujillo was picked up by a member of the Jesuits and closed his short yet fulfilling chapter at Loyola. We are truly grateful for Trujillo’s presence and wise words. Thank you, Mr. Trujillo.
