Gina Liberotti
One of Loyola’s best for over 14 years as a counselor.
Upon entering Loyola, her impact was felt by both students and colleagues. Looking back at her tenure, Liberotti was asked about her best memories at Loyola. She said,
“My favorite aspect of my job is the intersection of work, social life, and parish life. Think about it: One works here, makes friends here and can go to mass.”
She added,
“Earning my doctorate, which I could have only done with significant support and engagement. It was all the work of Dr. Jordan, by the way. I have loved the opportunity to do some really great work here.”
Liberotti spoke of a secret sauce that Loyola has present throughout its campus life and that many admire behind the scenes. She said,
“The secret sauce is the magical way that the community is created. To elaborate, I have loved seeing the shift in the culture here from one size fits all to the variability and diversity on campus. Being able to recognize that all students bring different gifts, challenges and experiences that shape a Cub.”
People inspire each other daily, and they hold a special place in one’s heart. Feelings such as gratitude and happiness emerge when thinking about the company and the experiences one shares with another.
In Liberotti’s case, those around her have inspired and motivated her every single day.
“My students. I mean, that’s why you do the job and love it. Additionally, my colleagues have been inspiring in how they lived their lives and encouraged mine. Others to note are Dr. Susan Torales, Dr. Jesse Rodriguez, Dr. Paul Jordan, Mrs. Hampson and, gosh, so many more,” Liberotti explained.
When asked who she would miss the most, Liberotti responded,
“The kids. Especially them. All those I work with. I’m going to miss being teased by Dr. Jordan and Mrs. Hampson.”
Liberotti’s Loyola journey has been extensive and filled with opportunities. She has worked as a counselor, a moderator for a club she holds close to her heart—FGSA (First Generation Student Association)—and has been a beloved adult on campus who is admired by everyone around her.
Deshawn Carpenter ’25 reflected,
“Dr. L was the best counselor a student could ask for.”
As she enters her next chapter in life, excitement is on the horizon. She said,
“I’m excited about this next step. I’ve never been bored because I find there is always something or someone to do and learn from. I’m happy to spend more time with my loved ones and look at birds. As my favorite, Lawrence [Notar ‘25], always says, ‘As soon as I see birds, I’ll focus on only that.'”
