The student council serves as the public face of our school, representing student groups at key events such as back-to-school night, parent-teacher conferences and open houses.
These occasions are opportunities to strengthen Loyola’s connection with families and the broader community, and student leaders play an essential role in making those connections meaningful.
These responsibilities require more than just participation—they demand commitment, communication and a deep investment in Ignatian values. That’s why every student council member must rise to the challenge of not only representing our school but also actively shaping it into a more united and vibrant community.
Emphasizing the importance of student council in fostering a better community and school involvement, Director of Student Activities Chris Walter ‘93 stated, “They set the tone for the school. They are the leaders of the school, and they create a memorable experience for the Loyola community.”
This year, student council election week was no ordinary week—it was marked with creative posters and promises of a better school year from all the candidates.
In early May, student elections were held, and the competition was stiff. Many candidates opted for a more humorous approach to sway the vote with content to make you laugh and remember. Hallways were lined with slogans, and students buzzed with excitement as they weighed their options. Each candidate was allowed to put up four posters each, with content ranging from Minecraft movie memes to celebrity endorsements to references to Lebron James.
“Lebron said vote LeNelson Pye,” proclaimed a colorful poster for presidential candidate Nelson Pye III ’26.
Vice-presidential candidate Nathan Turk was even more creative, as his poster depicted the newly elected Pope Leo XIV urging students to “VOTE TURK!”
Ultimately, the pair were elected Student Body President and Vice President, respectively.
For Juniors, Matthew Dombrowski ’27 was elected Class President, with Ryan Kong ’27 and Michael Volmert-Underbrink ’27 serving as Class Representatives. The Sophomore Class elected Chase Frankel ’28 as President, alongside Representatives Cash Feilke ’28 and Jason Gabriel ’28.
After winning the election, Pye stated, “I was very anxious and excited to hear the results of the election. I love talking to students and faculty around school, and I know my peers believe in my ability to lead and create fun.”
For Pye, Turk and the rest of student council their new positions are more than just a title—it’s a calling to make a real difference within the Loyola community. The school is good hands for the coming year.
