No extracurricular activities can run smoothly without diligent facilitators. Mallory Rawson, current Administrative Assistant for Athletics, makes sure the athletic programs run effectively.
Rawson’s initial motivation to apply for this position came from her previous background in assisting with interscholastic sports, a program in which different schools played against each other at the elementary and middle school levels. “I really loved doing that work, so I knew I had a passion for organizing and creating an experience that revolved around school-based sports,” Rawson noted.
As the Administrative Assistant for Athletics, Rawson personally manages many aspects of athletic programs: “I’m pretty much hands-on with everything behind the scenes for our athletic teams, from bus transportation, uniforms, and travel tournaments.”
Additionally, Rawson has played an instrumental part in reworking the Loyola Athletics website and smartphone app during this school year, alongside Jason Cruz ‘12. Due to Loyola’s large student body in comparison to other schools she has worked with, Rawson said that she strives to develop a relationship with each student on a personal level. Working towards this goal, Rawson has gone on a Kairos retreat as an adult leader and is a club moderator alongside Rachel Brown for Loyola Yell.
“I will say I’m very outgoing, and in every school I’ve been a part of, I’ve known all the students. With the size of this school, there’s only a fraction of students that I know. I’ve been trying to get more involved with going to more games and [getting to] know more about our athletes,” Rawson reflected.
Carol Hampson, who works alongside Rawson in the Student Center, shared, “She’s just so positive and has this great, boundless energy. She’s an enthusiast and a pleasure as a colleague to work with.”
Overall, Rawson asserted what she enjoys most about working as the Administrative Assistant for Athletics: “I like the fact that I feel as if I am making an impact every day for their season and that I am helping support them so that they can be the best that they can be.”
