THE GOLDEN DOME GLOWS in South Bend at the University of Notre Dame
Sophomores and Juniors came together on the Midwest college tour, gaining direction on their future academic endeavors after their time at Loyola comes to an end. From stepping onto the light-green grass of Notre Dame to viewing Lake Michigan reflecting the sun from the viewpoint of Northwestern’s rock, Cubs were excited about the possibility of attending any one of these universities in the future.
During this excursion, they toured several distinguished universities, including the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, Michigan State University, the University of Notre Dame, Purdue University, Indiana University–Bloomington, Butler University, Marquette University, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Loyola University of Chicago and Northwestern University.
By the end of their journey, the Cubs had a lot to say about their experience.
Roman Camarillo ‘26 expressed the importance of first impressions: “The student-led college tours make or break a university for you.”
Jacob Boyle ‘26 found honesty to be the most prominent quality that he looked at during the college tour: “A tour guide that keeps it real and that isn’t afraid to be honest about their college experience allows me to gain the most information I can about each college.”
Both the University of Wisconsin and Butler University became favorites among the Cubs. Wisconsin’s collaborative environment on campus, combined with the excellent tour led by current students, made it exceedingly appealing to all attendees of the Midwest college tour. Butler University also embodies a collaborative work culture while maintaining an exciting environment.
Tyler Mead ‘26 pronounced his opinion on Butler: “The fun and collaborative vibe that the campus had, along with the cohesiveness of the tour, made it an appealing option for all of us to consider during our search.”
The University of Notre Dame gave students an additional out-of-state opportunity to consider. The glimmering golden dome left a sentiment of enlightenment in the Cubs’ minds. Viewing students lounging in the perfectly cut grass gave Notre Dame a sense of peace and calmness — an essential aspect in the competitive environment that top universities in the Midwest naturally contain.
The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor offered another bright spot in the exciting exploration of possible futures for these Cubs. The greatness that Loyola students attribute to the “town” of Ann Arbor was fulfilled, as it emerged to supplement the academics in Michigan with an exciting city for students to enjoy throughout their four years there.
The tour served as a foundation for many Sophomores and Juniors to consider as they continue to work toward choosing the best-fit college in the next few years.
