For the past six years, Kieron Miller has been a dedicated counselor at Loyola, guiding students from their first steps on campus to their graduation day. Born and raised in Reseda, California, he has lived in Southern California his whole life. He currently resides in Whittier with his wife, Lynn, and son, Owen. Miller graduated from LMU in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in history before pursuing his graduate degree in organizational leadership at Azusa Pacific. His professional career began at LMU in the admissions office, where he developed a keen interest in student counseling. This passion led him to Whittier College, where he worked as an admissions counselor. Despite his success, he always considered coming to work at a high school.
“I wanted to work at a high school that I knew and respected,” Mr. Miller shared. This led to him choosing Loyola in August of 2019, where he has played a crucial role in supporting students as a counselor.
“We get to be with students from the time they are freshmen to the time they graduate. To see their growth throughout the years is extremely rewarding,” he reflected.
Beyond day-to-day counseling work, Miller also provides valuable insight into the college applications process with his background in college admissions. An example of this was leading Loyola’s East Coast College Tour, where a group of around 50 students visited some of the nation’s top universities and explored towns across the East Coast. For many, the trip is an invaluable opportunity to understand potential college homes.
Outside of work, Miller can be found shooting hoops or following the Dodgers and Lakers. Traveling is another favorite pastime, particularly road trips. Miller passes his long commute to Loyola by listening to music. A rock enthusiast, his favorites include U2 and Pearl Jam.
Mr. Miller’s dedication to Loyola High School and his students is evident in the enthusiasm he brings to work every day. He is always available to share a laugh or have a chat. Loyola is extremely fortunate to have him as a mentor.
