Our varsity soccer team’s recent trip to Fort Worth was a statement, to say the least. During the culmination of our Christmas break, the newly ranked soccer team attended the North Texas Elite Showcase, a prestigious tournament. With a strong start, the Cubs defeated Marcus High School, 1-0, followed by an impressive performance against Mesquite High School, winning 4-1. Undefeated, the Cubs marched onto the championship, winning 3-0 against Keller High School.
“The team had some great moments. It makes me proud to know the boys will always have this memory,” said assistant coach Brad Legant.
Senior Nate Walter ‘25 was able to finish from the penalty spot and bag his first goal for the varsity team, a moment he enjoyed with his teammates. He later stated, “It felt so good that I bought Will Schoettler ‘26, who earned the PK, dinner that same night,” a testament to the team’s chemistry and unity.
The team’s season has been an enormous success. Between their 10-0 finish in the Mission League and their success at the Texas tournament, the team’s season has been nothing short of excellent. In fact, MaxPreps recently acknowledged the talent of our Cubs and ranked them 25th in the nation. They were also recently crowned Mission League champions with an astonishing 10-0 league record and an overall record of 17-0-3.
Since many members of this year’s roster are seniors, this is a pivotal year for the team to capitalize on. As of now, the players await the monumental opportunity to prove themselves in the prestigious CIF playoffs. Undefeated, they currently sit in the seventh seed, facing the number 2 seed Mater Dei in the CIF Southern Section Open Division.
This talented soccer team has proven yet again they have the grit, talent, and determination to win championships, and they have their sights set on securing a CIF title this season.
