Marvel Rivals is a brand new 6v6 team-based shooting game created by NetEase Games. The game is packed full of Marvel Legends, and even current stars, like Spiderman, Hulk and Moonknight. The game has amassed over 10 million players worldwide and has a peak player count on Steam of around 644 thousand concurrent players. With all of this publicity around the game, is it better than what people say it is, or is it going to be another game forgotten in the future?
The vast roster of characters allows for a huge amount of variation in play styles and approaches to combat, meaning the game is easily accessible to new players, but not stale for seasoned gamers. At the moment, there are at least nine heroes for every class, which encourages players to experiment with new strategies and combine the power of multiple characters to take down the enemy team.
Israel Serafin ’28 stated, “Marvel Rivals is a very fun game with so many characters. They each have a unique set of abilities and are fun to play.”
Adding on to the vast amount of content, the developers have promised to give consistent updates and additions to the game. They plan on adding eight new characters every year, providing new skins and introducing new seasons to make the game seem fresh and new every time you play it.
Kian Mauri Magomnang ’27 explained, “The characters that have been leaked and are being planned to be added helps with the hype of the future of the game.”
Marvel Rivals doesn’t look like it will have any future problems with providing content or making the game balanced for both newcomers and hardcore gamers, as NetEase has been quick to address the community and fix issues. With how the experience looks at the moment, the hype for Marvel Rivals seems very real, not just a fad. The potential Marvel Rivals has shown proves this game can be even more incredible than it already is.
If NetEase Games keep up what they have been doing, and fulfills their promises, they will continue to have a loyal following and an interesting game. Marvel Rivals’ hype is not fake nor wrong but the game is a genuinely great one that has fought to earn its attention.
