Loyola has always had an abundance of creative people. For our students and the rest of the world alike, the arts offer a medium of self-expression with the unique ability to tell stories, capture emotions, and make connections between people with entirely different lived experiences. They give us new perspectives in a way that words alone never could.
So, why are they so underrepresented here on campus?
This was exactly the question that the Windowpanes Editorial Staff asked ourselves. After more than 60 years of publication, there is still a shockingly lacking creative presence on campus. So, going into this year, we made it our goal to correct this.
The first issue we faced was student awareness. With only one annual issue, it’s hard to keep hype around the arts year-round. The obvious solution to this is to increase the number of publications. This was exciting to think about but raised another issue. How would we even do that, and how would we make it accessible?
As it turns out, we can kill two birds with one stone; technology was our solution. After a rigorous collection and editing process, we at Windowpanes are proud to present our first-ever, fully digital, fall issue.
This is what we believe to be a true representation of the work our Cubs are doing here on campus, and whether it be out of interest, creative passion, or pure boredom, flip through these pages and support your fellow students. Thank you.
