With three colors, one-inch square logos and only one shirt design, Loyola fashion choices remain severely limited. It might seem impossible to be unique or to be the best dressed, but local icons like Adam Dempsey ‘25 and Connor Von der Ahe ‘25 give the Cubs hope.
While our dress code may seem strict, there are certainly many opportunities to show off your fashion. To kick off the list, let’s mention the handbook and the parameters that are established under the grooming section.
“Hair should be clean, combed and trimmed in a reasonably neat style,” but this is probably the most flexible constraint, especially after the first semester. People can get creative and do the “leopard” print on their hair (just make sure you say it is your natural hair color).
“Pants must fit properly.” All Cubs can agree that this part of the dress code is open to interpretation. For some, a proper fitting suggests no sag and a straight fit; for others, it just means covering the legs.
When it comes to style, go to Joaquin Gonzalez ’25 for tips on how to dress. Known for his style, Gonzalez commented about proper fitting pants: “As long as I have a belt on, I consider my pants to fit.”
Lastly, Cubs must wear Loyola, solid gray, navy or white polo Monday through Thursday. However, Cubs like to mix it up and try to bend the rules.
“I love to try and wear different shades of blue and mix in a few cute logos too,” said Dempsey, who always tries to put on his best outfit. Dempsey loves finding new ways to wear the clothes and colors he likes, yet he still respects the rules, serving as a great leader for his fellow underclassmen.
While there have been many instances of students getting JUG for not following the rules of the handbook, Cubs have found ways to maximize their Loyola fashion potential through observation of their fellow students.
As the year progresses, students may be less stringent with their wardrobe and find clothes to truly express themselves. Cubs, look forward to seeing all of the current and upcoming Loyola fashion icons!
