On Saturday, May 21, senior shot putter and captain of the track team Kevin Quisumbing finished first at the CIF Division I Finals at Cerritos College in Cerritos. After being the top finisher a week earlier at CIF Prelims, which was also at Cerritos College, Quisumbing was the top seed coming into CIF Finals, where he threw a new personal record of 57-05 ½, which qualified him for the CIF-SS Masters Meet on Saturday, May 28.
At the Masters Meet, which was also held at Cerritos College, Quisumbing threw 54-04 ¾ to place eighth overall, which did not qualify him for the State Championships; however, Quisumbing did suffer a back injury earlier in the season that he had to fight through during the CIF meets.
Quisumbing was Loyola’s only track and field athlete to make it to the Masters Meet this year. For qualifiers, the California State Championships will be held this weekend at Buchanan high school.
