The Admissions Committee, comprised of 15 faculty members, spent a week in early March reviewing roughly 700 applications for the class of 2020 and delivered decision letters to those accepted on Saturday, March 4. The Admissions Department seeks to admit a total class size of 315 students after reviewing waitlisted students, according to Admissions Director Heath Utley.

The deadline for accepted eighth-graders to register was March 14. Placement exams for freshmen wishing to partake in higher-level classes take place May 7, and freshman orientation is conducted in late August.

“I believe one of the strengths of Loyola is a culture of high expectations for every young man that joins this community,” Utley said. “I believe the older students and faculty, staff, alums, maintenance and security all help our incoming students understand that we believe in them and their ability to positively affect the Loyola community.”

The Rev. Fr. Stephen Barber, S.J., who was also a part of the admissions committee, said, “The application process is a chance to not only meet many qualified candidates for acceptance to Loyola High School, but also to meet new families and to just have a broader sense of the reach of Loyola High and its admissions process,” he said.

Barber said, “Every year we discover a new community, a new school, a new neighborhood, where people are interested in being part of Loyola and contributing to its history.”

Admissions Assistant Director Tom Gallagher said, “We go out to the grammar schools all over Southern California get to meet students in their grammar schools with their parents and answer any question they have about the school,” he said.  “I love Loyola High School, so to go out to the grammar schools and share that passion for this particular place is a real positive.”
