The Loyola High School Security guards have teamed up with the Los Angeles Police Department for Operation Shoes from Santa. Operation Shoes from Santa is a service outreach program that gives properly fitting shoes to underprivileged school aged children.

Donated shoes will be sent to the Olympic Area’s Los Angeles Police Department. Then, they will be given to the children in need. In conjunction with the police department, Loyola High School will help provide over 1,000 new pairs of shoes to children from 16 different schools.

Head of Security Abel Galarza said, “The head officer of the police department reached out to me and asked if I and the Loyola could help contribute to the drive. Because of the recent hurricanes in Puerto Rico, Texas and other places, many previous donors have directed the shoes to hurricane relief and the chief of the station is hoping that the Loyola community can help the police officers meet their goal.”

Anybody can donate a new pair of shoes to their local police station. Shoes are given out at Christmas parties held at police substations.

Galarza said, “It [Operation Shoes from Santa]  is a really good cause. It benefits a lot of underprivileged children that need shoes. I know that Christmas often about toys for some people, but these kids need the necessities such as shoes.”

Donations of new pairs of shoes can be placed in cardboard boxes until Friday, Dec. 8.
