The sophomore football team concluded its season on Thursday, Nov. 3, with a 23-13 victory against the Notre Dame Knights. Led by head coach Ric Flores and team captains Cole Miller, Scott Kase and Marcus Aguilar, the Cubs finished with an overall record of 8-2 and a 5-1 record in the Mission League.
On Thursday, Oct. 28, the Cubs beat Bishop Alemany High School with a score of 9-7. Despite a low scoring game, kicker Nick Barr-Mira scored three field goals from 37 yards, 39 yards and 42 yards to give the Cubs a two-point victory over the Warriors. The Cubs defense held Alemany’s offense to just seven points, contributing to the narrow win. Summarizing the team’s efforts, Miller said, “Everyone did their job at the game.”
The Cubs only losses this season came to Santa Margarita and Bishop Amat. According to Kase, the Cubs’ 8-2 season record underscores their intense and efficient work ethic.
He said, “After a loss to Bishop Amat, we worked twice as hard in practice and rebounded winning the next five league games.” The Cubs proved themselves as they finished the season with a five-game winning streak, and only two of those five games were played at home.
Throughout the season, Flores has watched his sophomore Cubs develop both their skills and hitting tactics.
He said, “They have consistently grown in their knowledge and execution of the fundamentals and skills of their positions.”
