The Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) hosted its fifth celebration of Día de los Muertos on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 2-5:30 p.m. in Xavier Center and Hayden Circle. The event included a prayer service, altars for deceased family members, arts and craft stations, merchant and food vendors and music. Spanish classes and ALAS members gathered to remember deceased family members and friends.

Spanish teacher Jose Sustaita said, “We had the largest amount of people come in the five years we have done this. The big help this year was the promotion on the website, the Mothers’ Guild page and the flyers that were given out to students.”

This year, Loyola formed a parent committee that helped by donating beverages and pastries and setting up decorations.

All ALAS members and co-moderators such as theology teacher Thomas Cendejas, English teacher Christine Moore, theology teacher Jesse Rodriguez and mathematics teacher Susan Torales helped put the event together and encourage participation.
